The SOBER BUS that touched many hands!

DAYTON, OHIO, November 14, 2024 – Good Shepherd Ministries, a Dayton-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery and reentry, is proud to announce the ribbon cutting of their new “Sober Bus,” a mobile community outreach project. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Thrift Store, where the public is invited to attend, tour the new Sober Bus, and celebrate the Re-Grand Opening of the Good Shepherd Thrift Store.
The Sober Community Seed Bus is the culmination of a 2-3 year project led by the staff and participants of Good Shepherd Ministries. The team converted a former school bus into a mobile resource center outfitted with amenities like a refrigerator, water tank, shower, and toilet. This allows the bus to function as a self-contained unit to provide essential services out in the community.
“We’re thrilled to unveil this new way to expand our reach and support our neighbors,” said Michael Corser, one of the project’s lead volunteers and a dedicated member of Good Shepherd Ministries. “With the bus, we can meet people right where they are – offering meals, clothing, showers, and even a place to rest. It’s a way to plant a seed of hope for those who may be struggling.”
The bus, entirely funded through community donations, was completed through the hard work of Good Shepherd’s staff and volunteers, many of whom used and shared their own vocational skills, such as carpentry, electrical work, and painting. As a result, the Sober Bus is not just a vehicle but a symbol of the transformation, skill-building, and empowerment central to Good Shepherd’s mission.
The event will also feature the Grand Re-Opening of the Good Shepherd Thrift Store, a volunteer-run operation dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Good Shepherd Ministries’ recovery and reentry programs. With special door prizes, giveaways, and refreshments, the event promises to be a meaningful celebration of community and second chances.
